U18What if? Alternative HistoryHave you ever wondered how the world might look if one key moment in history had gone differently? What if? Alternative History explores exactly that question. It’s the idea that if one event had changed, the entire course of history might have taken a different path.
In this class, you’ll explore how history, imagination, and storytelling mix to create new versions of the past. You’ll analyze how one altered event — known as a point of divergence — changes everything that follows. You’ll also discuss whether these imagined worlds seem realistic or purely fantastical.
In this EPW, you’ll:
-Understand how alternate history connects storytelling and historical thinking
-Identify and analyze “points of divergence” in real and fictional histories
-Share and discuss ideas fluently and critically with classmates
-Create your own “what if” scenario based on historical events
Be ready to think creatively, question assumptions, and reimagine the past.
