How? By reading the New York Times bestseller and National Book Award winner, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (2007), written by Native American author Sherman Alexie. You will explore themes of racism, poverty, and identity—and beyond everything, you’ll be proud of yourselves because by the end of this course, you will have read a 230-page novel in English! Each week, you will learn mostly new idioms (and sometimes proverbs or quotations), practice vocabulary from the UPPER wordlist, and use grammar in real-life situations. You will use technology to record your work and create original content such as videos, podcasts, posters, or Instagram pages. Sometimes you will work on your own, sometimes with a partner, and for the final project, you will work in small groups to write, act, and record a roleplay.  By the end of the course, you will be able to express yourself more clearly and confidently. You can also learn how to evaluate your speaking strengths and weaknesses through teacher and peer feedback.
